One common misconception is that there is nothing to do in the North Georgia mountains in February and March. The holidays have passed, taking with them all of the festive decorations and activities. The hunting season for most every game concludes at the end of January, so that is off the list. And many times, the weather is too cold or it is raining, eliminating outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, kayaking, etc. While there is a long list of wonderful things to do in Spring, Summer and Fall, we do not want you to write off Winter just yet. In fact, we think these months are the perfect opportunity to experience some of the unique indoor hobbies that North Georgia has to offer, as you are likely to overlook them in the other seasons.
North Georgia Art Galleries
Blue Ridge attracts artists and art enthusiasts from all over the Southeast, and even the country. The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association is home to the largest art gallery in the North Georgia mountains, and it always has a new exhibit showcasing an amazing artist, for example now their gallery has an exhibit from Tom Kells and Keith Burgess. In addition to the exquisite art, the venue also hosts many events, like a Cork and Canvas, different fundraisers, children’s events and more. It is this organization that hosts the Arts in the Park event twice a year.

The Gilmer Arts Association showcases all of the arts – paint, theater, dance, singing, etc. It also encourages community participation – for example, they currently have an art exhibit titled “It’s a Work of Nature,” and it features the creative works from a recent children’s event. In addition, they always host an art exhibit in their gallery from a very talented artist, and the art gallery has free admission. Like the Blue Ridge association, Gilmer Arts hosts different events nearly every weekend, from painting classes to vocal performances and dance lessons. So, when you are spending a week or weekend at a rental cabin in Ellijay, there will be a variety of cultural events for you to enjoy.
